Affirmation Deck Anatomy: 12 Specs Top Sellers Use

Card counts, sizes, finishes and box styles — benchmarked from decks that sell.

7 min read For Sellers & Creators

Decks that sell at premium prices are not better printed than cheap ones. They are more completely specified. Here are the twelve decisions that separate the two, with the values most successful decks converge on.

Decisions 1–4: the card itself

  • 1. Card count — 52 and 54 are the retail standards; 60–72 signals a premium or oracle format. Odd numbers below 50 read as incomplete
  • 2. Size — 70 × 100 mm and 70 × 120 mm dominate this category; poker 63 × 88 mm reads as a game deck rather than a wellness deck
  • 3. Stock — 350 gsm with a dark core; the extra density is felt immediately and resists warping in humid climates
  • 4. Corner radius — a slightly larger radius than game cards, which softens the deck's feel in hand

Decisions 5–8: surface and edge

  • 5. Lamination — matte is near-universal; it photographs without glare and does not fingerprint
  • 6. Surface texture — soft-touch or linen; soft-touch is the tactile 'expensive' signal
  • 7. Edge treatment — gilded is the most photographed upgrade per unit of cost
  • 8. Interior print — full-colour both faces; a blank back reads as unfinished

Decisions 9–12: presentation

  • 9. Box type — rigid two-piece with a magnetic closure for gift positioning; printed tuck for retail shelf
  • 10. Insert — a printed card or folded insert inside the box adds perceived value at very low cost
  • 11. Shrink wrap — cellophane for retail; omit if the box is the display object
  • 12. Extras — a guidebook, a stand or a cloth bag turns a deck into a set and justifies a higher price

What this costs you in practice

You do not need all twelve. The decks that sell well typically pick two premium signals and execute them properly, rather than spreading the budget thinly across five. A deck with a matte finish, a heavy dark core and a rigid box outperforms one with gilded edges, spot UV and a cheap tuck box at the same total cost.

Sampling this properly

Order a physical sample with your actual stock, finish and edge treatment — not a generic material swatch. The differences between 300 and 350 gsm, or between matte and soft-touch, are not visible in a photograph and cannot be judged from a spec sheet.

Vlikestar produces affirmation and oracle decks from 500 pieces, with your first sample free and ready in about 3 days. Send a link to a deck you admire and we will tell you exactly which specs produce that look and feel.
